Who made the first animated feature film?
Today forgotten, Quirino Cristiani delivered the first animated movie -‘El Apóstol’- in Buenos Aires in 1917. In 1931, Cristiani’s genius and industry resulted in another breakthrough when he produced ‘Peludópolis’, the first animated feature film with sound. The documentary shows what’s left of his work, a lost interview and 2 shorts that have been re-discovered during the making of this film. Since his ground breaking feature films have been destroyed in a number of fires, this documentary is all that exists to chart his unique adventure. |
After working as an animator in Italy, in 1994 Gabriele Zucchelli moved to London where he continued to animate, design and supervise for TV specials, musical featurettes, feature films and commercials. His latest credits include: 'Spirit, the stallion of the Cimmarron', 'The cunning little Vixen', 'Dinotopia', 'Harry Potter 3', 'Alien vs Predator'. 'For a Tango' (2004) is his first independent short film, which was selected for competition in HIROSHIMA 2004. 'Quirino Cristiani, The mystery of the first animated movies' (2007) is his first feature documentary, which he produced and directed. He is currently the animation supervisor for the Universal’s animated feature film 'The Tale of Despereaux' due to be released in 2008. |
