Comments on the competition result by the Chairperson (Kosei Ono)
This year’s Hiroshima International Animation Festival has received more than 2,000 entries, the largest ever in its history. Of those, 66 films have been nominated for the competition. The difficult part of our jury work was narrowing down those films to give awards. All of the films were so uniformly excellent, that we as jury members struggled to choose some which were obviously outstanding to all. After sharing hours of stimulative and heated discussion, the four of us came to satisfactory conclusions. One of the characteristics of this festival is that a large number of films made as debut films, or by students are of high quality. This makes us realize that we see more and more younger generations joining the animation world. It is a great pleasure for us, the jury members.
