Dear friends,
It is my great honor and pleasure to be invited to the 2006 Hiroshima International Animation Festival as Honorary President. It has been eight years since I was in Hiroshima for the 1998 festival as a jury member and I have very fond memories of that first trip to Japan.
The Hiroshima Festival has always been one of the finest animation celebrations in the world. Its dedication to promoting Peace in the very place where humanity needs most to be reminded of the cruel realities of war makes it a very special and touching experience for everyone attending the festival.
Our ever-expanding animation community is indeed quite a unique international brotherhood and in my own experience, these gatherings are far more the occasion for professional and friendly meeting, cultural exchange and sharing each other's work than for mere competition. Animation has a long and beautiful tradition of bringing people together from all parts of the world and often at times when politics would rather tend to discourage any effort toward mutual understanding. Animation then seems to be the perfect medium to be celebrated here.
I come here with my dear wife Marcy Page, who will be a jury member (probably her good judgment and experience is better considered than mine so she has to do the work that requires real responsibility!). In both my name and hers, we wish you all the very best for this 2006 Hiroshima Animation celebration.

Normand Roger
